Update on My Health

5 September, 2020

Hi Everyone,

I have had such an outpouring of love from so many friends concerning my cancer diagnosis. I wish I could answer each and every one of you, but am trying to conserve my strength. So, I’ve decided to provide a short update through this Rehoboth post. Please know that I am truly touched and grateful by your outpouring of love through phone calls, letters, e-mails, and visits to Jacksonville just to pray with me. With the prayers going heavenward from here in the States, Haiti, Canada, and other parts of the world, I feel incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful friends interceding for me!

Just in case someone is reading this for the first time, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Its official name is Invasive Adenocarcinoma. A lump appeared in almost the same area where my first one appeared in 2017 which led to a lumpectomy. Now, the cancer has returned and it was determined that I would need a mastectomy of that breast. After seeking a second opinion, the doctor concurred that, yes, this would be the correct protocol for me.

While the second physician was examining me, she observed that it was very painful for me to lie on my back and stretch my left arm up above my body. She suggested that I get a full body scan and a CT scan done to rule out the spread of the cancer to another part of my body. Since there is no cancer evident in the other breast or in any of my lymph nodes, I would truly be surprised if the cancer had advanced elsewhere.

So…the fun continues. I am waiting for my first doctor in Wilmington to call and let me know when this appointment has been set up. If the scan should prove the cancer is spreading, then the mastectomy will be ruled out and I will be placed on hormone therapy to curtail the advancement of the cancer since it is the type of cancer which is Estrogen-driven.

Thanks again for all the love and concern for my welfare. I have also been contacted by other precious women who have been diagnosed with cancer as well. The will remain nameless, but I would ask that you remember them when you remember me. The Lord knows their names. God bless!
