Almost There!

Our $2200 goal for our university fund is almost completed. Thanks to some very thoughtful and generous donors, we have received $1,745 and we only lack $455 to finish! What a load this takes off us as well. Who will help us wrap it up? Many thanks to all of you who responded to this need! Our university students thank you as well!

Who’s Holding the Fort?

John Maxwell said, “Everything rises and falls upon leadership.” Never could a saying be more true! We have been detained stateside much longer this year due to my illness than we had planned to be. With all my follow-up treatments, the Pandemic, and other obstacles, Prit has been by my side to run me back and forth to doctors’ appointments, scans, lab tests, x-rays, chemo…..you name it! He has been there for me and I am eternally grateful.

How does Rehoboth keep running in spite of our prolonged absence? Our success depends on the faithfulness of our donors, as well as 38 years’ worth of investing in leadership training. Our leaders are “home grown” and have been “holding the fort” in Haiti all this time. They know their jobs and they get them done whether we are there or not. Without them, we could never get anything accomplished.

Here’s a salute to the faithful committee of our main church in Petite-Anse who has worked so faithfully, whether we are present or absent! They are the unsung heroes, many of whom you may never meet, but who love us and love this ministry.

As things get more and more difficult in Haiti, would you remember them in prayer as well as the people of Haiti? Would you also like to partner with Rehoboth so we can help more people? We can do great things together!

For Those Who Grieve…

A bereaved mother who lost her daughter this week in the Haiti earthquake.

By now, I am sure you have been updated concerning the recent earthquake which took place in the city of Les Cayes which is located in the western part of Haiti. Sometimes, I’m just too sad to post, but know that the people there need your prayers and aide. The death toll is over 700 now. I just communicated with an American mother whose daughter arrived in Les Cayes around a week ago to commit to two years to teaching in a school there. Her daughter’s apartment had cracks in the walls and one could see the concrete blocks exposed. So, like many others, she moved out and is dwelling under a tent with others seeking refuge from any further earthquake activity.

Les Cayes is far from Cap-Haitian which is located in the north of the island. Our workers in Cap felt strong tremors as well, which naturally set them on edge. But, there was nothing beyond that. There are folks in our churches who have relatives in Les Cayes. From what we’ve heard, their families are all safe.

One never knows what each day will bring. We all just have to be ready. On a Sunday night in October 2006, we didn’t have the foggiest idea that a gang was seated on our church benches. They were waiting for the service to end so they could kidnap us. Who could have guessed that on a trip to Canada in 2010 to visit friends that my husband would almost succumb to what would have been a fatal brain hemorrhage? There were other close calls in our earlier days when our sons were little and our daughter had not yet been born. We were on our first visit to Cap-Haitian. When we rounded a mountain curve, we were met with a group of people (both men and women) armed with machetes. They had pulled an old chassey across the road to block it and immediately demanded money. Between the providence of God and a word of wisdom the Lord gave to my husband, they let us go. My heart was in my throat all the way to Cap-Haitian, not to mention on our return trip to Port-au-Prince.

Just a week ago, everything was business as usual in Les Cayes which, like Cap Haitian, sits next to the ocean. Today, families are continuing their search among the rubble for loved ones. This, coupled with the possibility of subsequent quakes or a tsunami only adds to their anxious thoughts. We ask for your prayers and we ask you to give to those who are struggling, surviving, or, even worse, mourning the loss of a loved one.

Samaritan’s Purse and Agape Flights, Inc. are two wonderful ministries that we can heartily recommend. If you want to give through Rehoboth Ministries, we can make sure your funds get to a great ministry. Sending it directly would get to them more quickly, however. Thank you for your response to this tragedy.

$2,200 Fundraiser

Can you help?

The school year in Haiti is just around the corner. We have two students who are attending a local university. Due to the recent events in Haiti, we feel cautioned in mentioning their real names and do not want to put their lives in jeopardy. It’s grieves us that it must be this way, but we can say that they are star pupils and have been selected for this position because they have proven themselves to be faithful on so many levels. Each one is a member of one of our local churches and has been involved in ministry already. We hope you will help us with this fundraiser!

Both of these students have made us proud with their studies. One is entering his 4th year in a university and the other is entering his 3rd year in a different university. Rehoboth Ministries believes strongly in investing in future leaders. Never has there been a greater need for leadership than now. One never knows in what station of life these young men may find themselves to make an impact on Haiti. We hope you will help us raise these funds quickly since their classes begin very soon!

Thank you in advance!

Our Donors Speak

Rebekah Kaylor

We are so grateful for Rebekah’s partnership with Rehoboth Ministries. She has a true heart for missions as she grew up as an MK – Missionary Kid! Thank you Rebekah!

God used growing up in Japan as a missionary kid to create a huge heart in me for being involved in missions. Haiti has been one nation that has intrigued me. It is infamous for being a corrupt, destitute nation. Yet I believe in the transforming power of God. I believe that God can transform lives and thereby transform a nation. Building and training leaders is one of the keys to sustaining a move of God resulting in the transformation of a nation. I love how one of Rehoboth’s focuses is on building and training local leaders. In order to train leaders, an organization needs support and finances. It has been my pleasure to partner through prayer and finances with Rehoboth Ministries in order to provide support for their ministry. I am excited to see what God does in Haiti through Rehoboth Ministries and the leaders they have and are training!

Hope Maketh Not Ashamed

A few days ago, I wrote to one of our ”home-grown” disciples who is today a leader. My heart was so vexed for Haiti and the turmoil taking place there. I expressed to him my deep sorrow over a nation which seems to be imploding and grieved over the faithful ones with which we have worked for so many years, all the while wondering how they were surviving in the midst of it all. I ached for our schoolchildren and wondered when our schools would reopen so they could, at least, get one hot meal a day. I wondered how anyone could find any good in a place where dreams die all too quickly. As I poured out my grief and frustration to him concerning the days ahead, I received this reply.

Hi ManPast. Hope you have a great day! I can understand all that you feel inside of your heart for this country, because I do, as a Haitian, have the same feeling too. But, we trust God can turn Haiti around. So, our job is to keep praying for the country all the time. We prayed for your family at the committee meeting last Thursday. We are working as leaders all the time to keep the church members to have their eyes on God. Because only God has the final word for the country.

He did not realize it, but he was giving me a sweet rebuke. He is the type of person would never hurt a fly, much less correct me. Where was my faith? There is hardly a day that goes by that our lead pastor fails to write me to ask how I am doing and to let me know that our people are praying earnestly for me. Hardly a service goes by without them naming my name before the Lord.

This gives me hope for Haiti because there are disciples there who have spent hours on their knees in intercession for us. These are seasoned warriors who were on their faces during our kidnapping and would not relent in their prayers for my husband when he was given up to die. Our ”home-growndisciples have weathered many a storm and are preparing for another one. These are the ones who will change the course of Haiti, for they have the steadfast hope that the Lord will not forget them…..”and hope maketh not ashamed.” Reference: Romans 5:5-11
