Mirlene Riché

Mirlene Riché is one of our Bible School students who is studying hard to obtain her degree at our Bible Institute in Cap Haitian, Haiti. She is one of the many fine young students who would love to have a ”hand-up” in order to make an impact in her own country of Haiti. Would you pray for her and consider helping her complete her goal? The $25,000 Bible school fundraiser will assure her of an scholarship. You can click on the arrow and listen to her testimony.

Leaving A Legacy

Today, in my mind’s eye, I see the faces of the many people in Haiti who are working for Rehoboth Ministries or whose iives have been shaped by Rehoboth in various ways over the course of 38 years. Elementary and Bible School teachers, little children, youth, married couples, and the list goes on.

I read a profound statement in a devotional yesterday which caused me to reflect on those lives that have been touched. ”Educator D. Elton Trueblood is said to have written, ‘We have made at least a start in discovering the meaning in human life when we plant shade trees under which we know full well we will never sit.’ The little child who hungrily fills his stomach with the food provided for him, the young man who would never have a job otherwise if not having received employment from this ministry, or the Bible School student who would be living hand to mouth if he or she had not had the opportunity to study and obtain a degree are just a few examples of the trees we’ve planted (with your help). We may never see the full spectrum of what their lives will reflect. But, our prayer is that these burning embers will be spread to the next generation and so on causing the fire to never die out. We are raising up sons and daughters in Zion and it’s been a rewarding work.

Thank you for joining us in creating a legacy for future generations. May we always be asking ourselves, ”What am I planting today that may provide shade for another when I’m no longer here?”

Patrick’s Prayer

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! I don’t know if you wore green and celebrated, but I do hope you know the type of man that Patrick was and the great sacrifice he made for the sake of the Gospel. He was a true missionary in every sense of the word! Here is an excerpt, telling in a nutshell, the amazing story that surrounds this day!

Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. www.history.com/topics/st-patricks-day/history-of-st-patricks-day

Here is a beautiful, insightful prayer of Saint Patrick for you to read and enjoy!

“… I arise today, through God’s strength to pilot me,

God’s might to uphold me,

God’s wisdom to guide me,

God’s eye to look before me,

God’s ear to hear me,

God’s word to speak for me,

God’s hand to guard me,

God’s shield to protect me,

God’s host to save me

From snares of devils,

From temptation of vices,

From everyone who shall wish me ill,

afar and near.

Christ with me,

Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me,

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right,

Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I sit down,

Christ when I arise,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today

Through a mighty strength,

the invocation of the Trinity,

Through belief in the Threeness,

Through confession of the Oneness

of the Creator of creation.”

57 cents

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 159873069_1097084594091912_475412112463454770_o.jpg

I was so touched by this story and wanted to share it with our readers. You never know what your giving may accomplish.

A little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it was “too crowded.””I can’t go to Sunday School,” she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by. Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found room for her, and she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus. Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings. Her parents called for the kindhearted pastor who had befriended their daughter to handle the final arrangements. As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled red purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside was found 57 cents and a note, scribbled in childish handwriting, which read: “This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday School.” For two years she had saved for this offering of love. When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building. But the story does not end there. A newspaper learned of the story and published It. It was read by a wealthy realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered to sell it to the little church for 57 cents.Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide. Within five years, the little girl’s gift had increased to $250,000.00–a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividends. When you are in the city of Philadelphia , look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300. And be sure to visit Temple University, where thousands of students are educated. Have a look too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday School building which houses hundreds of beautiful children – built so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time. In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russell H. Conwell, author of the book, “Acres of Diamonds”.This is a true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD CAN DO WITH 57 CENTS.

NOTE: Thanks to your generous giving, our previous amount of $11,791 for our Bible School Fundraiser is now $12,291. $12,500 will put us halfway! Like the little girl’s gift, your gift (large or small) can do great things for the young men and women wanting to obtain a 4-yr. degree at our Bible institute. In a country with so little, God is silently working to raise up future leaders who can breathe hope into their own people. Your giving makes that possible.

At Rest

Mary Hunter Chapko: September 9, 1953 – March 13, 2021

Hi Everyone,

We want to thank each and every one of you who have been praying for Prit’s sister, Mary. Mary Hunter went to be with the Lord a little before 9:00 last night. Even though she will be sorely missed, we are thankful that she is no longer suffering. She was in tremendous pain and the medications were not giving her any relief at all. She is resting in the arms of Jesus now. We were thankful that, at this time, we were stateside and were able to pray and encourage her often during this difficult season. Thank you for remembering her husband, Bill, in your prayers during this time and, of course, Prit. Mary Hunter was his only sibling.

Prit’s Sister Needs Prayer

We are sending up an SOS for prayer this morning. Prit’s sister, Mary Chapko, has been admitted to Intensive Care. The doctors are attempting to drain her right lung for the second time. The cancer has also spread to two places in her brain. We know she would sure appreciate your intercession during this most difficult time.

It is never too late for a miracle. The doctors told me (Dana) in 2010 that they could no longer do anything for my husband. Then God stepped in and raised him up. You can read about it in my book, Into the Storm. Let’s pray in faith!

New Donations!

We’ve had some new donations come in towards our Bible School fundraiser. Our original amount of $9,086 added to our new contributions of $2,705 brings us up to $11,791. Thanks to all of those who have chipped in so far. Our goal of $25,000 is still a ways off, so pray for us to be able to meet this goal quickly.

A dear pastor friend and supporter of Rehoboth has shared a few words for our readers. John Finochio has made several trips to Haiti, taught in our Bible school, and become well acquainted with our students. We are grateful for all that the Finochios and Crossroads Life Church have done for Rehoboth Ministries. Hope you enjoy!

Our Donors Speak

We just love our donors! Many of them, like Randy and Gulie have been long-term givers. They would like to share their thoughts about Rehoboth and their partnership with us. Love you guys!

Randy & Gulie Bullard

“We had the great opportunity & blessing of attending church with the late great Pritchard & Lucy Adams.  You weren’t around them very long before they brought up Haiti, their son Prit, & daughter in-law, Dana.

Prit & Dana are the epitome of missionaries. Their life’s work has been devoted to sharing the gospel, feeding & educating the  …poorest of the poor in this world.  Children who would be lost in every way are ministered to through feeding programs.  They are educated in the schools that have been built and most of all they are given the opportunity to grow spiritually with the Word of God.

Mark 16:25 tells us to go into all the world & preach the gospel. Not everyone can go physically.  All can go through prayer & giving financially to send those who do go physically. While we weren’t called to the mission field physically, we can help support those who were. Therefore we pray & give financially.  We encourage others to do the same!  As you give, you will be blessed! By supporting  Rehoboth Ministries, we are “going into the world”.  Come go with us!”

A Hand Up!

I heard a story once that greatly impacted my life. A dear Pastor friend, who has now gone to be with the Lord, relayed a moving tale about giving to those who were not able to give back. This Pastor’s church members would gather food together each week to distribute among families in poorer neighborhoods. One particular family was in dire straits and the church made sure to help care for many of their needs – from food to clothing and so on.

Our pastor friend said that in one of the families was a young daughter. This little girl grew up to become a fine, young woman who chose to enter public office. She served in a very prominent role and became a catalyst for change in her state. But… she never forgot her roots. She shared with her Pastor that she would never forget what the church had done for her and would determine to be a force for good as well. She kept her word.

We have other students being groomed now to take a leadership role one day. Many of them come from the humblest of circumstances, yet they are willing to sacrifice for the education being provided for them. Wouldn’t you like to be someone who will give them a hand up? You can!

So far, we have raised $9,086.00 to help these young men and women. The bar has been set for a $25,000 goal for our Bible institute fund. This $25,000 will 1) enable us to give our Bible school teachers a much-needed raise as well as 2) provide scholarship funds for young men and women who are unable to help themselves. Like the young lady who grew up in poverty and eventually went on to have a prominent career in her own state’s government, who knows what these men and women will accomplish in their lifetime because someone like YOU decided to give them a hand up? Please earmark your gift Bible institute.
