Update on Dana
Today was spent at Cape Fear Orthopedic Hospital in Wilmington getting a body and CT scan. I was told the radiologist would read them and then send them over to my doctor at Wilmington Surgical. I trust that before the week is out, I will have sat with him and find out what my next step will be. So, keep praying! I am so touched by all your cards, phone calls, and messages. 🙂 Many thanks to the angelic nurse who provided me with that heated blanket while I waited in the cold hospital waiting room.
Meanwhile in Haiti….
We just sent another transfer to Haiti to feed our schoolchildren as well as pay staff. The present exchange rate is 16.9. That means it takes $16.90 H to match the equivalent of one US dollar. The ever-increasing fluctuation of Haitian monies is causing havoc from purchasing food in the marche to the exorbitant rate folks are charging to simply rent a ”bare-bones” concrete house. The misery this is causing our people is unfathomable and since the majority of Haiti’s goods are imported, it is (as they say) ”yon absè sou klou.” (an abcess on top of a boil.) Our people are crying out for help and we just don’t have the means to help everyone.
As if that were not enough, the food boxes have been held up for months. Our schools opened back up in August, but we only began to feed the children this week with the monies appropriated to us by Orphans Promise. We are not able to feed the kids in the three schools five days a week without having the feeding boxes added to it. We ask you to please pray that these boxes will be released soon. This is the only meal that many of these children eat all day.
We ask you to pray and we ask you to give as the Lord would lead you if you are not already a partner with Rehoboth. We need help particularly in helping our University students complete their year of school and to provide them with money for gas and food while they’re attending classes outside of Cap-Haitian. There are many of our brothers and sisters who need money for medical needs if you would like to send an offering and earmark it medical fund. We thank you for your giving and lifting a heavy load off the backs of our friends and co-workers in Haiti.
