Happy 4th of July to all our friends and supporters! How wonderful it is to be writing to you from our home in North Carolina. We hope this is a time well spent with your families or just in quiet reflection of what it means to be a citizen of this great country. Prit, John, and I have immensely enjoyed being back and enjoying all the blessings that are reaped from living in the USA. As I shared with the members of Enon Baptist Church last Sunday, ”It was wonderful to simply get in our cars and drive to church this morning. The roads were well paved, there were no roadblocks and burning tires in our path, and no one who stopped us to demand money. We will not have to call ahead to our security guard to make sure the road is clear before returning to our neighborhood.”
While Haiti is experiencing more instability and unrest every day, we are only too grateful to be in our home country where there is peace. While I know this is not reflected in every part of our home country, our little corner of the world here in Jacksonville, North Carolina, is quiet. Perhaps we could lay aside the differences among political parties for one day and reflect upon the gigantic gift one has been given to call themselves a citizen of the United States.
We Remember
— Today, we remember all those who have given their lives so that we may live freely. From our founding fathers to those who have died in battle for their country, as well as those who are putting their lives on the line today, we salute you!
— Today is a day of remembrance for us personally. Most of you know that it was 9 years ago today that Prit had his first of two brain aneurysms. Every year, we are more keenly aware of how blessed we are to simply be alive and functioning.
— We remember Lucy Adams who went to her eternal home on July 4, 2014.
— Interestingly, it was on July 4, 1826, that two principle signers of the Declaration of Independence passed away. Both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams drew their last breaths only hours apart from each other.
