Hunger. Unemployment. Lack of Medical Care. A Dismal Future. All these describe the land where we live.We have been in Haiti for 37 years. Yet, we have never seen the level of poverty that we see today. Aid provided from other nations rarely reach the average Haitian and now with the Pandemic afoot, Haiti is at an all-time low. Almost everyone is out of work, the people we live among and work with are suffering from hunger, and nothing is functioning except for a few stores in town.
The exchange rate is mounting almost on a daily basis. Today $1 US = $20.80 Haitian. When Prit and I look at what we spend just for the needs of our own home, we have to ask ourselves – how in the world does the average Haitian live? I even shared an article in another post which warned that Haiti is in danger of facing a famine. But, here’s some GREAT news………
Thank you, Orphans Promise!
Orphans Promise allowed us to use the monthly funds for April to distribute to the members and families of our local churches. The Pastors distributed the funds to their cell groups who in turn blessed each family with money to buy their own food in the marché. Some cell groups bought the food themselves and separated it among the families.
News is trickling back to us from all the churches about these families. I wish I could relay to you the elation of these brothers and sisters whose burdens have been temporarily lifted. Can you imagine the satisfaction they receive – especially in watching their children fill their stomachs? With others’ help, we have been able to temporarily assuage their hunger. Rehoboth also had the capacity to lift this burden by giving $1,000. This is because other wonderful donors who support our ministry sow regularly into the feeding fund. Many thanks to these wonderful individuals.
