Here in Haiti, we have been following all the events which have taken place in the last few days concerning the Coronavirus. Panic and pandemonium have set in and it hurts our hearts to see the unleashed fear that has hit our nation and the world. Thanks to this pandemic, the normalcy of everyday life has almost come to a grinding halt. We won’t even talk about what this is doing on a grand scale to businesses and other services that we have always taken for granted. One thing’s for sure, FEAR can cripple a nation. Those in the health industry are being tested to the point of exhaustion due to the alarming number of folks showing up at hospitals to get tested and those who are gravely ill are not getting the care they should have gotten due to the increase in volume. Of course, we are not condemning anyone who is taking precautions, but the fear which has gripped our nation is a crippling fear and is not God’s best for you if you are a believer. May I share some good news with you?
The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53:5: “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” By stripes, it is referring to the lashes that were placed upon Jesus’ back. Jesus paid for our healing. He loved us so much that he submitted under the crack of the whip which the seasoned Roman soldier so expertly exerted upon him. It is said that there are 39 major diseases in humankind — that all other sicknesses branch from these major illnesses. According to the Jewish law, those who were whipped received 39 lashes. Whether Jesus’ received 39 lashes or 40 is of no consequence. What matters is that he submitted to the torture of the moment and that his subsequent death on the cross bought about our spiritual and physical healing. Now, that’s some great news in light of the mayhem that is taking place in our nation (USA) and other nations as well! Since there is a ”Fear not…” for every day of the year in the Bible, you have a ”Fear not” for today!
If this doesn’t get you excited, meditate on Psalm 91 and let that become your prescription for today and it will fill your mind with peace. It is so rich and just these verses alone can feed you for a lifetime:
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
