What a busy week it’s been! Three visitors flew in from Richmond, Virginia, and left a significant deposit with Rehoboth Ministries. Andy Clark, Pastor Mike Hennigan, and Pastor Victor (Manny) Peña met first with our Bible school students and then with the key leaders of the Rehoboth church-planting network. They shared on the subject of Koinonia (communion) being the essential element needed for a team to work together. Drawing from local construction practices for imagery, they talked about how crucial it is to have individual character (concrete blocks), trust between believers (mortar), and fellowship (iron rebar inside the blocks) in order for a building to remain strong for years to come. All these elements are essential in a country where earthquakes have brought so much devastation. They are even more essential, however, to building a team that can accomplish great things. This teaching brought both our Bible students and our key leaders closer together in the knowledge that their strength comes from their connection to the Lord and each other.
On Sunday, the team split up with each guest minister preaching in a different church. At the main church, we celebrated the church’s 30th anniversary. Pastor Manny preached a powerful message on celebrating the past while believing for greater things. It was a beautiful time of reflection and anticipation of an even greater future for Haiti!
Pastor Mike and John went and strengthened one of our rural church plants and Andy preached in the church located right here on our own compound. In between times of ministry, there were many conversations around the table. We thoroughly enjoyed brainstorming for the future with our visitors. All in all, koinonia was taught and lived out this week. On the team’s last day, we all took time to enjoy the beach in February. One of the nice things about living in Haiti is that winter only happens in movies!
