A Mighty Oak Tree

oak-red

We are busy wrapping up the year here in Haiti. Tuesday, Prit and I will fly to Miami and will arrive in Jacksonville, NC, on Wednesday morning. Maestro Claudel and I have been furiously translating English songs into Creole for our youth choir to sing in our absence. We even have Christmas songs for them to work on since Prit and I will not get back until around mid-October.

We are eagerly looking forward to seeing family and friends. I can’t wait to get my hands on those grandkids! Our beautiful little granddaughter, Lorelei, will turn 1 year old on June 11. June’s a big month for us: My birthday and our wedding anniversary are both in June as well.

While we are anxious to get back for some R&R and to visit with friends and loved ones, part of us always stays here. Haiti is ever in the back of our minds because Rehoboth has grown from a simple acorn to a huge tree over the years and it provides shade for many people. The lives that have been impacted by this ministry are many and we are humbled by the folks who help make it possible. While I write, I can hear students playing just across the compound. Their exams will be in early June, then they’ll be done for the year. We’re so happy to be able to mold these “future leaders.”

We have ordered a sound system for our main church which will be en route from Ohio to Florida at some point. It took our church YEARS to raise this money, so it’s pretty important that it reaches us safely and in a timely manner. Then, we will start working on raising money for all the new instruments. If you’ll allow me to brag, I will say that we have some of the most formidable musicians anywhere. They have played for many years on instruments which would have long ago been discarded by any church stateside. Yet, they have been faithful to do so. We ask you to pray for the safe arrival of our sound system and, if you feel led to give, you can send money to help our church complete the money for the instruments. The bass guitar is totally out of commission and the drums… well, they really should be on their way to the dump! Just mark your donation Haiti/instruments.

Thanks for your prayers and thanks for your giving into this ministry. This mighty oak tree will continue to provide shade for many.
